Progress Post 9

One of our weeks during Pub 101 was dedicated to advertising. In tutorial we were shown how to access advertising for our blog site, and could decide if we wanted it or not. We are not huge sites obviously, but we could try it out and see how it goes. I believe one person in the class put ads on their site and made like $3.00, so that was cool, but not a lot. So my main question is, is it worth it? Ads on websites are how most online entrepreneurs make a profit, but more often than not viewers seem to simply just get annoyed by the constant ads. The way, especially today, most people who access the web get around this annoyance is by having ad blockers set up so they don’t have to go through the hassle of navigating the many ads, but in turn this cuts back on the add revenue the site’s designers make. Progress Post 8

Throughout Pub 101 we had a series of six mini assignments to complete. These were such things as a meme, a story without words, an essay, a remix, an infographic, and a gif. All relatively visual aspects of the web, aside from the essay of course. As I’ve expressed in previous progress posts I often run into a lot of visual challenges during a semester. However, instead of being annoyed or frustrated with these mini assignments, I decided to have a little fun with them, and learn more about exactly what they were. Continue reading “Progress Post 8”

For three of my blog posts, I did a three-part video series on accessible reading formats. I focused on what I know so the videos were related to blindness, and the main formats in which visually impaired people read. The three topics were braille, e-books and audio/ graphic audio books. Peer Review 3

I was reviewing the blog heyyjessie.com  for peer review 3. This blog is a fashion, lifestyle, and personal opinion and experience site. I enjoyed reading the blog post about Jessie’s best friend and the 19 questions to ask a best friend. I thought they were pretty interesting questions, and I felt like I was actually getting to know her. I also read a post called Pretty in Pink, which was about the colour pink being popular; I really enjoyed the title of this post because it reminded me of the 1980’s movie Pretty in Pink starring Molly Ringwald, and I simply just love 80’s movies! I also am not really a fan of the colour pink, but I found the post quite a good read regardless. Continue reading “Peer Review 3”

Progress Post 6

Since the very beginning of Pub 101, and the beginning of my blog site, I have always been concerned with my audience. In every presentation I have attended, and from everyone I’ve talked to about creating my own website, I have always walked away with the clear fact spinning around in my head that your audience is one of the most important things to focus on. Once you figure out who your audience is, everything else will follow. This sounds great in theory, but in reality it appears to be much more difficult. Continue reading “Progress Post 6”
